How to Completely Wipe Personal Data Off iPhone

What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone? This article shows you what to do before you sell or give away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If you still have your iOS device:

Before you sell or give away your iOS device, make sure that you've removed all of your personal information. Follow these steps to protect your data and get your device to its factory default state for the new owner:
1.Back up iPhone data to computer( Transfer iPhone contacts, sms, photos,video,ect to comoputer/Mac).
2.Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.
This will completely erase your device and turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services.
If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, your Apple ID and password will be required. After you provide your password, the device will be erased and removed from your account so that the next owner can activate it.
3.Contact your carrier for guidance on transferring service to the new owner.
When the device is turned on for the first time by the new owner, Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process.
Important: Do not manually delete contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photo streams, or any other iCloud data while signed in to your iCloud account, or the content will also be deleted from the iCloud servers and all of your iCloud devices.

If you no longer have your iOS device:

If you didn't follow the steps above before selling or giving away your iOS device:

1.Ask the new owner to erase all content and settings as described above.
2.If you're using iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device, you can erase the device remotely and remove it from your account by signing in to icloud.com/find, selecting the device, and clicking Erase. When the device has been erased, click Remove from Account.
3.If you're unable to complete either of the above steps, you should change your Apple ID password. Changing your password won't remove any personal information that is cached on the device, but it will make sure that the new owner can't delete your information from iCloud.

How to Completely Wipe Personal Data from  iPhone?

Step 1: Run iPhone Data Eraser and Plug in your Device
Install and run the eraser program on your PC. Then connect your iPhone to the computer via a USB cable. You will get the interface below:

 

Step 2: Select a Type to Erase Data
Two types of data erasing are provided by the software: Erase All Data on Device and Erase Deleted Files.
You can see the specific description from the homepage above. Choose the first one and move on. (The second erasing type is not available yet).



Step 3: Choose a Security Level and Begin to Erase your iPhone
Here you are offered three security levels to delete all iPhone data: Low, Medium and High. Navigate to each security level and read the information carefully.
Here choose the Medium security level and click on "Start" button to begin erasing your iPhone data. Confirm your conduct by inputting the shown word then. Now, the eraser program starts to wipe all data on the device for you, wait for a while patiently.


Note: Don't unplug your device in the erasing process, or the deleting won't complete successfully.


Step 4: Complete the Data Erasing The program will show as follow when it completes erasing for the device. Click "Done" to finish. Now, your iPhone is totally new as it was made in the factory.

Tips:It's prudent to back up your iPhone's data and settings even if you plan to sell the phone. If the sale falls through or you change your mind, all your content is ready to upload once again, or it is available to load onto a new iPhone.
You can locate your iPhone from other iOS devices from iCloud using the "Find My iPhone" app.
You may choose to remote lock the iPhone if you left it somewhere reasonably safe but wish to prevent access until you retrieve it.
To use the remote wipe or lock feature, you must first set up "Find My iPhone" on the phone. Tap "Settings" and "iCloud." Slide the "Find My iPhone" switch to the right to activate the feature. Tap "Allow" to confirm tracking of your iPhone.
